Steeped in history, Virginia's Capitol was the country's first representative assembly, where state legislators met between 1704 and 1780. The original building burnt down in 1747 and again in 1832, with the current building a reconstruction of the original 1704 version. A definite must for history buffs, this Williamsburg landmark was the breeding ground for patriots such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

This is a reconstruction of the original building built in 1720, after it burnt down in 1781. Governor's Palace in Williamsburg boasts the opulence you would expect of British aristocracy, with the palace being home to an impressive collection of 16,000 items, including some 800 guns and swords, along with priceless original furnishings.
